This session highlights key principles and best practices for DIR-FCD programs for young adults with special needs. Supportive programs need to be the bridge builders between the high school years and post 21 potential and young adult expectations, We strive to find the balance in supporting individual needs , understanding rights and responsibilities of community participation, , and navigating typical adult privileges. Key capacities that are crucial to support fulfilling adult futures such as independence, problem solving, self advocacy, and tapping into strengths will be examined through a developmental lens. Interventions driven by assessment will be illustrated with video and photo examples as we examine the connection between potential roadblocks , foundational capacities, effective support and goals , transition roadmaps, and positive outcomes.
