Profectum DIR® Level 2 Certificate Course (CL2)

Profectum’s Certificate Level 2 Course is an online course that utilizes small class sizes and an intensive 9-month process to build on the participant’s knowledge and skills acquired in CL1 and encourages the participant to deepen his or her ability to conceptualize treatment plans within the framework of the model. The course advances each participant’s ability to assess and articulate individual profiles as well as Functional Emotional Developmental Levels (FEDLs), and to use DIR® principles and strategies to foster social-emotional development in a wider range of infants, children, adolescents and adults with developmental challenges.

Course Overview

Profectum’s Certificate Level 2 Course is an online course that utilizes small class sizes and an intensive 9-month process to build on the participant’s knowledge and skills acquired in CL1 and encourages the participant to deepen his or her ability to conceptualize treatment plans within the framework of the model. The course advances each participant’s ability to assess and articulate individual profiles as well as Functional Emotional Developmental Levels (FEDLs), and to use DIR® principles and strategies to foster social-emotional development in a wider range of infants, children, adolescents and adults with developmental challenges.

Advanced webcasts, participation in online classes and small group tutoring (in addition to the classes) allow participants to more deeply focus on assessment of various emotional, learning and neurodevelopmental profiles and implications for treatment and progress.

Focus will be given to the clinician’s reflective process and ability to project and monitor developmental progress of clients over time. Advanced observation, interaction and assessment tools will advance participant fidelity in the DIR-FCD™ model. Ongoing small group reflective tutoring will provide participants the opportunity to receive feedback on his or her clinical work throughout the course. Participants will share a range of cases and ultimately present a final case in an online forum.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate a deeper understanding of the course of development, individual differences and developmental challenges
  • Develop a deeper understanding of observation, assessment, interaction and comprehensive intervention skills
  • Conceptualize a range of cases within the DIR-FCD™ model framework
  • Display a deeper understanding of integration of the model and your own discipline
  • Apply and build/modify interventions across time demonstrating a deeper understanding of the integration of the model
  • Describe your experience with reflective supervision

Criteria to Take the Course

  • Completion of Profectum’s CL1 Certificate Course.
  • You must be a professional in Speech and Language, Occupational or Physical Therapies, Education, Mental Health (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy), Medicine, Developmental Optometry, Creative Arts, and others who want to integrate the DIR® model into their practice.  Professional parents may take the course but will not be permitted to use his or her own child to show their work.
  • You must have access to a minimum of three cases with the ability to video (children or adults with a developmental disability) throughout the course
  • The attendance of a Profectum Conference or completion of one of our Introductory Courses is recommended, but not a required.

Course Structure

  • Small class structure
  • 9-month program
  • Online class meets 1 time per month for 2-hours
  • Tutoring groups meet 1 time per month for 1 to 2 hours depending on the size of the tutoring group
  • Webcast lectures

Tuition for the CL2 Certificate Course is $2,050.

Payment can be made in full before the course begins or monthly in five payments of $330, with the first payment due before the course begins.

There will be a 5-day grace period for failed or declined credit card payments. After five days, the participant will not have access to the learning management system (LMS) until payment is successfully made.

A minimum number of participants are required to run each course group. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a scheduled group if the required number of participants is not achieved.

There is a $25 fee that is required when you submit your application.  You will not be able to submit payment for the course until your application is approved. 

Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted via email if there are any questions.

If your application is approved, you will receive notice via email and can proceed to select an available group to join and submit payment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We strive to accommodate start times and international time zones for our participants and, therefore, reserve the right to adjust course start dates and times as needed. A minimum number of participants are required to run each course group. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a scheduled group if the required number of participants is not achieved.

The following criteria must be met in order to acquire a certificate at the end of this course.  These criteria should be monitored (record notes) throughout the course.

  • Attendance of 80% or better*
    • No more than 2 absences to the online classes over the duration of the course
    • No more than 2 absences to tutoring sessions over the duration of the course
    • *Any missed classes or tutoring groups are expected to be viewed via Zoom recording and impressions and comments shared with the group in writing
  • Contributes to online classes
  • Uses technology as required by instructors
    • Camera is on for class
    • Uses the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Submit Unit Evaluations for Unit’s 1, 2, and 3
  • Complete Self Evaluation and Feedback Form

Certification does not imply endorsement of clinical competency. As a licensed professional, you are responsible for reviewing the scope of practice, including activities defined in law as beyond the boundaries of practice in accordance with and in compliance with your profession’s standards.

If you submit payment and withdraw from this course at least 10 working days (Mon-Fri) BEFORE the start date, you will receive a refund minus the non-refundable deposit and a cancellation fee of $25. If requests to withdraw are received after this, no refund is given and you are responsible for full payment of the course.

Requests to withdraw must be sent via email to training@profectum.org.

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to begin training again with a group scheduled at a later date, but the course payment is still due as scheduled for the initial group registration.

In the event that a course group is canceled, you will be notified immediately via email and a credit will be issued toward a rescheduled course group or the entire submitted fee will be refunded without further liability on the part of the organizer.

To make our training available to as broad a group as possible regardless of geography or time zones, Profectum uses video streaming and video conferencing as our standard technology tools. The course relies on you watching webcasts on your own and joining class discussions using video conferencing (Zoom). You will need a relatively modern PC/MAC and modern broadband internet access.  While Wi-fi can work if your home/office has excellent connectivity, a wired internet connection to your PC/MAC is highly recommended.
