Profectum DIR® Trainer Certificate Course (Trainer)

This program allows professionals who have completed the Profectum Certificate Level 2 (CL2) Course or equivalent, to advance to the Trainer level through lectures, discussion groups and practicum experiences training other professionals within Profectum’s programs, including the Level 1 and 2 certificate courses, tutoring, and other settings. In addition, participants will advance their competencies in the DIR model through presentations and discussion of complex developmental and mental health challenges including those of older ages, integration of various approaches necessary to improve long term outcomes, coaching, advocacy, etc.

Criteria to Take the Course

  • You must be a professional in Speech and Language, Occupational or Physical Therapies, Education, Mental Health (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy), Medicine, Developmental Optometry, Creative Arts, and others who want to integrate the DIR® model into their practice. Professional parents may take the course but will not be permitted to use his or her own child to show their work.
  • You must have a Profectum CL2 Certificate or equivalent. (example: ICDL DIR 201, 202 and 203)
  • You must have active professional license or teacher credential.
  • You much have an active caseload or be teaching currently with the ability to present 2 cases.

Course Structure

  • 8-12 participants in each class
  • On-line classes meet 1-time per month for 2-hours each for 12 months
    • 1-hour advanced topic discussion with Profectum Faculty
    • 1-hour sharing a case presentation
  • Co-lead a CL1 or CL2 course and participate in supervision with the faculty instructor*
  • Provide tutoring to participants in a CL1 or CL2 course and participate in supervision with the faculty instructor*
  • Self guided activities
    • Review all webcast lectures in the CL1, CL2 and Trainer courses
    • Review instructor and tutor manuals and become familiar with supporting documents and forms

*As this robust program offers a wide range of opportunities, participants should understand that the time commitment for this course is a minimum of 7-8 hours per month and will vary depending on when course co-leading and tutoring opportunities are available.

Participants receive a Profectum Trainer Certificate upon completion of all criteria and can move at his or her own pace, not to exceed 2 years

Professional parents may take the course but will not be permitted to use his or her own child to show their work.

Click on the "Apply Now" button and complete the online application. Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted via email if there are any questions. Once your application is approved and you have been assigned to a group, you can submit payment.

There is a $25 fee that is required when you submit your application.  You will not be able to submit payment for the course until your application is approved. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: We strive to accommodate start times and international time zones for our participants and, therefore, reserve the right to adjust course start dates and times as needed. A minimum number of participants are required to run each course group. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a scheduled group if the required number of participants is not achieved.

Tuition for the Trainer Course is $2,600.

Payment can be made in full before the course begins or monthly in six payments of $375, with the first payment due before the course begins.

There will be a 5-day grace period for failed or declined credit card payments. After five days, the participant will not have access to the learning management system (LMS) until payment is successfully made.

The following criteria must be met to receive a certificate at the end of this course. These criteria should be monitored (record notes) throughout the course:

  • Attendance
    • No more than 2 absences to the online classes during the course
    • Any missed online class is expected to be viewed via Zoom recording, and impressions/comments shared with the instructor in writing to be considered a “make-up” of the content missed
  • Contribute to class discussions
  • Prepare and share written feedback on participant case presentations
  • Use technology as required
    • Camera is on for class
    • Navigate the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Review all webcast lectures in the CL1, CL2 and Trainer courses
  • Review instructor and tutor manuals and become familiar with supporting documents and forms
  • Co-lead a CL1 or CL2 course and participate in supervision with faculty instructor*
  • Provide tutoring to participants in a CL1 or CL2 course and participate in supervision with faculty instructor*

*As this robust program offers a wide range of opportunities, participants should understand that the time commitment for this course is a minimum of 7-8 hours per month and will vary depending on when course co-leading and tutoring opportunities are available.

Certification does not imply endorsement of clinical competency. As a licensed professional, you are responsible for reviewing the scope of practice, including activities defined in law as beyond the boundaries of practice in accordance with and in compliance with your profession’s standards.

If you submit payment and withdraw from this course at least 10 working days (Mon-Fri) BEFORE the start date, you will receive a refund minus the non-refundable deposit and a cancellation fee of $25. If requests to withdraw are received after this, no refund is given and you are responsible for full payment of the course.

Requests to withdraw must be sent via email to training@profectum.org.

Under certain circumstances, you may be able to begin training again with a group scheduled at a later date, but the course payment is still due as scheduled for the initial group registration.

In the event that a course group is canceled, you will be notified immediately via email and a credit will be issued toward a rescheduled course group or the entire submitted fee will be refunded without further liability on the part of the organizer.

To make our training available to as broad a group as possible regardless of geography or time zones, Profectum uses video streaming and video conferencing as our standard technology tools. The course relies on you watching webcasts on your own and joining class discussions using video conferencing (Zoom). You will need a relatively modern PC/MAC and modern broadband internet access.  While Wi-fi can work if your home/office has excellent connectivity, a wired internet connection to your PC/MAC is highly recommended.
