We would like to share a story of one of our wonderful Profectum families.
Gio has been an advocate for DIR® since her son, Antonio, was very young. Most recently, Gio has been a very active member of one of our Covid Parent Support series led by Lisa DeFaria MSW, LCSW, BCD. We want to applaud Gio for bravely sharing her family’s story during this very difficult time. We know that their story is raising the awareness of the extra challenges that families with special needs children are facing due to the pandemic.
Here is a note to our Profectum family from Gio:
“The pandemic has disrupted family time with our son Antonio. He lives in a group home 33 miles away. We have not been able to bring him home on weekends to enjoy family time. No hugs, no kisses. Even though we miss him dearly, we feel grateful that the staff and Antonio have, over time, developed a trusting relationship, allowing Antonio to feel safe, secure, and respected. He is a super special and strong young man! “
