Cheryl C. LaFortune, MA, CCC-SLP
Cheryl C. LaFortune earned her masters degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Tulsa in 1979. She is currently a pediatric speech-language pathologist in private practice in Tulsa, OK where she has worked since 1987. Cheryl completed her basic certificate for the DIR model and the Foundational Capacities for Development (FCD™) in 2015. Cheryl provides comprehensive developmental speech-language services. She specializes in the treatment of social and emotional communication and the DIR model and the Foundational Capacities for Development (FCD™) inform her treatment. Her focus is to assure that children develop the foundational skills of communication: shared attention that includes social referencing and regulation, shared affect and engagement that fuels language comprehension and production, and shared intention that creates the impetus for the child to talk. As communication emerges functionally, speech and language acquisition can proceed on the normal development pathway and flourish with a variety of traditional speech and language approaches that best suits the child. Cheryl is dedicated to treating the child and parents with dignity and compassion. She embraces the journey as a team.
