Mood Disorders in Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers: A Developmental/ Interdisciplinary Approach to Working With Children with Mood Disorders and Parents
Ira Glovinsky leads us in a masterclass that discusses the psychiatric community’s history with diagnosing mood disorders in infants and children and the present need for a new approach. We will cover a range of perspectives including: the DSM-5 model, the DC:0-3 model, a developmental psychopathology approach, and a Research Domain Criteria approach. Each perspective comes with limitations: for example, the DSM-5 approach is not informed by developmental and interdisciplinary knowledge. We will also address the diagnosis of mood disorders across categories and separate out regulatory disorders from this larger domain. Paying special attention to these diagnostic categories as they appear in Autism, we will look at present intervention methods and current research that is moving in a developmental direction.
